How much plastic gets recycled?

Results of a new study from the University of Georgia, published in Science Advances.
Guess what percentage of plastic gets recycled?  The authors say only 9% of all plastic is recycled! Of the other 91%, some is incinerated but most of it goes to landfills and into the oceans!

Other results of the study:

  • humans have produced 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic since the 1950s
  • plastic takes more than 400 years to degrade
  • 8 million metric tons of garbage ends up in the ocean every year

Dangerous Detergents?

I’m sure everyone has seen those squishy detergent packs you can buy for laundry and dishwasher detergent. I have always discouraged people from buying them because they are way over-priced. This week the AP has reported that they can be dangerous too. There are many cleaning products that are so SAFE compared to others.

CitriClean is all natural and made from all FOOD-GRADE ingredients. Yes, you could eat CitriClean! Trust me, I have tried. I must admit that it tastes terrible so I can’t recommend it for a new diet craze 🙂

As always, CitriClean is safe, clean, and effective. Be careful with your cleaning products that are now. Especially if you have small children in your house.

The end of summer means……

It’s August, so summer is ending soon and school is starting soon. For me, the worst part of summer is that our family rarely has dinner together. In summer we are traveling to camp in Monterey, TN (ask us about it!) or visiting friends, etc. We tend to be apart more. But when school starts, we have more structure and time to all sit down together for dinner! Here at CitriClean, we believe sparkling clean dishes are only important because they make for a better family dinner. Start planning now: a few times per week, really make it a priority for the whole family to have dinner together. No TV, no cell phones, no distractions. Focus on having meaningful conversations with each other. If you want evidence for why it’s important, read this quote from The Family Dinner Project:

“Over the past 15 years researchers have confirmed what parents have known for a long time: sharing a family meal is good for the spirit, the brain and the health of all family members. Recent studies link regular family dinners with many behaviors that parents pray for: lower rates of substance abuse, teen pregnancy and depression, as well as higher grade-point averages and self-esteem. Studies also indicate that dinner conversation is a more potent vocabulary-booster than reading, and the stories told around the kitchen table help our children build resilience. The icing on the cake is that regular family meals also lower the rates of obesity and eating disorders in children and adolescents.”

What do innovative companies do?

Why is successful innovation so difficult and so rare? I think we are naturally drawn to things that already exist – things we can buy, use, experience, see, feel, and understand. To be innovative requires us to imagine things that are not really here. The distinction between invention and innovation also helps answer this question. To invent is to create something on your own. Imagine the inventor, tinkering away in his garage. Eventually, he might invent something that solves a problem or makes a task easier to accomplish. In contrast, innovation is more difficult. Innovation requires a market. To qualify as an innovation, there must be a supply chain, distribution, customers, and transactions that are involved in bringing the thing to the market.

At CitriClean of Florida, we invented a product that uses the cleaning power of dehydrated orange peels. The product works – it clears the hard water deposits from cloudy dishes. And CitriClean pays for itself – you can reduce your detergent consumption when you use CitriClean. So your cost per wash should not increase when you use CitriClean. Another innovation is that we have the “greenest” packaging in the industry – reusing is better than recycling! Who else turns garbage into packaging without shredding, melting, or crushing? Our most recent innovation is advertising on the moon! If there is water up there, it’s probably hard water. So we want to get a jump on the competition 🙂

Happy Birthday to CitriClean of Florida!

Happy Birthday to CitriClean!! The first sale occurred April 1, 2011 so CitriClean is now one year old!

We decided to celebrate our birthday in two ways. First, the entire website has been redesigned. If this is your first time here, we hope you enjoy it. It contains a lot more information than before, it’s beautiful, and we think it’s entertaining too. In fact, somewhere in these pages is an opportunity to win a free bottle of CitriClean. The shopping cart is at the top of the first page. So if you are here to quickly buy a bottle or 3, then it’s easier than ever. If you are here to browse around, then please take your time. There is a lot of information here about why your dishes are cloudy. Many people have a white chalky residue on their “clean” dishes. CitriClean was designed to solve that exact problem. To all of our loyal customers – thanks for your business during our first year. We have worked hard to keep costs and prices low and to provide next day shipping for every single order.

Check back soon for the second way we are celebrating our first birthday!
